Heart Attack

A heart attack occurs when an artery is blocked leading into the heart and unfortunately it is one disease that kills a high number of people every year within the UK. It has become increasingly more apparent that people need to look after their body more than they do currently, whether that is through exercise, healthier diet or stop anything that is harmful for example smoking. It has been proven that a healthier lifestyle would reduce the risk of people suffering from various critical illnesses not just heart attacks. There are certain aspects of people’s life which would make them more likely to suffer from a heart attack such as if you are a smoker, are overweight, you have high blood pressure or cholesterol. A heart attack can occur at any point in time, however it can occur if you are under a lot of pressure or stress or even doing a level of exercise you are not use to. A heart attack does not just occur it may be a build up of a few common causes, and it can happen to people you least expect. It has killed a large number but it is also possible for some one who has suffered a heart attack to make a recovery although there life would need to have some changes in order for it to be less likely to happen again.

Having a heart attack means you would normally feel an enormous amount of pain in the middle of your chest, it can be a dull pain which feels very heavy. The pain may be fairly instant however it also possible for the pain to gradually become worse but no matter which you would need medical attention as soon as possible. Once at a hospital a doctor will be able to provide you with the treatment you need, a full examination will be conducted but the sooner you get treatment the higher the survival rate. One important aspect is to try and stop the clotting and as long as there are no allergies to aspirin the patient could take an aspirin before the ambulance arrives as this thins the blood. You would then hope that at the hospital the clot can then be dissolved. People can also suffer from a silent heart attack where they may not then have any symptoms. But again there are many things that people can do to lower the chances of them suffering and although people are living longer perhaps due to the advances in medicine people need to make some changes themselves as no one is invincible. After suffering a heart attack, you may then be on various medications for the rest of your life but at the hospital they will do anything they can to make sure you can live a normal life as long as your heart is not to damaged or scarred.

The effects of having a heart attack vary quite considerably, they may stop you from your current job or even from working, or it may be you just have to be more careful. Some people may want to consider taking a critical illness policy to protect them just in case.
